We have spent a lot of time this past year, and understandably so, talking about HS sports in our area, and when we would finally get the green light to bring back all HS sports into the public school systems.
And last week, Mayor de Blasio gave us great news: HS sports in the NYC Public Schools (the PSAL) can indeed start up, and that's terrific!
But in all the hoopla and excitement to move ahead, the sad truth is this: somebody was left out of the celebration, that being the Catholic HS Athletic Association in the NYC boroughs.
In short, the kids who play competitive sports in the Catholic HS Athletic Association in NYC still remain on the sidelines. The question is: why?
How could that be? Is it possible that Mayor de Blasio, his staff and the NY Department of Health have somehow overlooked Catholic HS sports here in NYC?
From all reports, the Catholic HS Athletic Association (CHSAA) has been doing its part to follow all of the safety protocol; their schools have been open in hybrid fashion since September. They postponed all high-risk sports (like football, basketball, and wrestling), and they have only allowed low risk sports to continue on.
So, now, with PSAL sports coming back on March 22, why hasn't NYC also given the green light to the Catholic HS as well?
