The MLB Futures Game will indeed be all about the future – because it will include a player with less than a dozen professional games under his belt.

That, as you can probably guess, is Jasson Dominguez, one of two Yankees and four New York prospects overall selected to play in the Futures Game on Sunday, July 11 in Denver. Dominguez just made his official debut on Monday with the Yankees’ Florida Complex League team, and he’ll be both the first player to participate in the Futures Game without having played in a full-season league and the youngest player since then 18-year-old Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in 2017.

“Is this premature to have someone unwrapped like this in a Futures Game? The answer is yes. At the same time, we can’t deny it’s an experience he will learn from. Good or bad, it’s a growth opportunity. We just decided to take advantage of it if they decided to select him,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday night.

Dominguez, as of Wednesday morning, actually had more career Futures Game nods than hits (he was 0-for-3 with three walks in his first two pro games), and the FCL Yankees will play just 10 games total before Dominguez would head to Denver.

He will be joined by RHP Luis Medina, the Yankees’ No. 7 prospect per MLB.com who is 2-2 with a 4.05 ERA in 10 starts between High-A Hudson Valley and Double-A Somerset this season, and minor-league hitting coach Rachel Balkovec, who will be part of the AL field staff.

On the NL side, two Mets prospects are headed to the game in third baseman Brett Baty and catcher Francisco Alvarez. The latter is the Mets’ No. 1 prospect and the No. 48 overall prospect in the game per MLB.com, and the 19-year-old has been tearing up the minors so far, slashing .321/.453/.597 with eight home runs, 31 RBI and 13 doubles in 42 games between Low-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn.

Baty, 21, has spent this season in Brooklyn, slashing .318/.417/.534 with six homers and 32 RBI in 42 games.

In addition to those four, former Mets prospect Jarred Kelenic will represent the American League as a Mariner, while ex-Yankees RHP Roansy Contreras will be part of the NL squad as a Pirate.
