Tiki: Mets 'have to' get Juan Soto to win World Series, but Yankees don't 'need' him

Juan Soto will be highly coveted by nearly any team hoping to contend in the years to come, as a 23-year-old superstar under team control for two-plus years presents an unprecedented trade chip that has rarely been seen before in the sport.

The Yankees and Mets fall under that category of teams that could vault themselves into World Series contenders or favorites with such a monstrous move, but Tiki says for the Mets, adding Soto is more a matter of need to get to the Fall Classic than for the Yanks.

"The Yankees don't need him," Tiki said during Tuesday's "All In" segment. "But the Mets, if they want a chance to win the World Series, they have to get Juan Soto. It lines up perfectly for him."

Of course, any team could use a superstar like Soto, but Tiki says the Mets won't be a World Series team unless they can make a big splash for Soto. As for Brandon Tierney, he is more focused on after the season, and what would happen if not only the Mets acquired Soto, but if the Bombers were unable to bring Aaron Judge back.

That would mark doomsday in the Bronx.

"I don't know how they navigate this without Judge being done," BT said. "They know that if they enter the 2023 season without Aaron Judge, which I don't think will happen, and Juan Soto happens to be in Queens, then you have a bigger problem. I don't know how you recover from that."
