The Yankees begin an important series against the Red Sox on Friday, and Mike King will get the ball in the series opener for what will be just his second start of the season.
With Corey Kluber down due to a shoulder injury, New York’s rotation is currently shorthanded, and after having Friday’s starter listed as TBD, manager Aaron Boone confirmed that it will be King taking the mound Friday night in the Bronx.
King has thrown 22 innings so far this season, allowing seven earned runs and 19 hits with 20 strikeouts in that span. In his lone start of the season, which came in his latest appearance, King went 2.1 innings against a lowly Tigers lineup and allowed four runs, two of them earned, on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. It marked his fourth straight appearance of allowing at least one run after starting the season with 12.1 shutout innings.
King will be opposed by former Yankee Nathan Eovaldi.
