Aaron Boone on more fiery Brian Cashman at start of offseason: 'I enjoyed the rant'

Aaron Boone joined the Evan and Tiki show on Tuesday afternoon, hitting on a number of topics involving the Yankee offseason as spring training nears next month.

One of them was Brian Cashman, who was noticeably more vocal in his defense of the Yankee operation at the start of the offseason, as the team was facing heavy criticism following an 82-80 season, which Cashman himself called a “disaster.”

Cashman spoke strongly in defense of the team’s player development, strength and conditioning, and track record of regular season success, and Boone admittedly “enjoyed” seeing more public fire from his general manager.

“For him, it was coming to the defense of a lot of people who he thinks are very good at what they do,” Boone said. “More often than not, you kind of wear things and you power through, but I think it was probably a little therapeutic for him to come out and try and defend things a little bit. We’re getting a lot of fire from a lot of different places, understandably. We didn’t come close to meeting our expectation or standards last year, and we understand that comes with it. But there are times you want to defend yourself as well, so I think it was a little bit of that.

“But I enjoyed the rant.”
