Aaron Judge underwent an MRI on his abs after being pulled from Monday’s scheduled batting practice, and will not swing a bat until “later in the week.”
The MRI came back clean, and while Judge isn’t worried about the soreness he feels, he felt it best to rest a couple of days from swinging before picking a bat up again. In the meantime, he is expected to do outfield drills on Tuesday.
“There’s no real need to push it,” Judge said, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Judge added that the goal is still to suit up for Opening Day, but it is another injury scare to one of the Yankees’ best players. Gerrit Cole is set to undergo an MRI on his right elbow in another potential injury nightmare.
Judge had two at-bats on Sunday in spring training action before being pulled, which Aaron Boone framed as not injury related. But Judge did appear to wince on a swing during his final plate appearance. He has missed extended time twice in his career for straining an oblique while swinging, the first coming in 2016 shortly after making his big-league debut, and the second coming early in the 2019 season.
