The Yankees are back in the Bronx for game three on Saturday, licking their wounds after striking out a combined 30 times in two straight losses in Houston to open up the ALCS.
Not much of it surprised Boomer and Gio at all.
“There’s nothing worse than watching your team absolutely flail away at pitches out of the zone, not be able to make contact, and not be able to hit home runs,” Boomer said. “I know it’s frustrating, but I sit here and say to myself, ‘this is exactly what I expected.’ The Astros are a very good team.”
Houston is not just a very good team, but one that has continued to own the Yankees like the Bombers once did to the rest of the league, or other dynasties have done across other sports. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Yankee batters looked outclassed in games one and two.
“They’re the Patriots to everybody in the AFC those years,” Gio said. “The Astros are to the Yankees what the Yankees were to a lot of teams in the American League back during the dynasty. They’re the Bulls to the Knicks, the Astros to the Yankees right now. They’re that team that is better than you are, and that you can’t beat.”
