As the Yankees were getting thumped by the Rays once again, and falling closer to .500, Brian Cashman spoke with reporters in the press conference room at Yankee Stadium to address what had been an underwhelming trade deadline.
One reliever was added to the big league roster, but no fixes for left field, catcher, third base, or any of the holes the team has been struggling with for months.
For Shaun Morash, it was the completion of Cashman devolving into the worst GM in Major League Baseball.
“Brian Cashman is no longer the smartest guy in the room when it comes to baseball general managers,” Shaun said. “In fact, he got caught looking as one of the most hideous general managers in baseball yesterday.”
Shaun says Cashman’s awful trade deadline is a symptom of his own arrogance, assuming he would be able to address left field and other needs at the trade deadline, not taking into account the expanded playoff that would make even more teams buyers, which is what happened with the Cubs and Cody Bellinger, the Angels with Lucas Giolito, the Padres keeping Juan Soto, and so on.
“Six teams make the playoffs [in each league] now,” Shaun said. “If there is less inventory to sell, you have to acknowledge that and not leave your team with such gaping holes on Opening Day.
“The Yankees didn’t need to add one piece. They still have an enormous hole at catcher, left field…third base, and they didn’t even address one hole yesterday.”
