BT worried Aaron Judge won't snap out of playoff funk before World Series is over
Aaron Judge has struck out six times through two World Series games, and has one single as his lone hit in the series so far.
Brandon Tierney says the Yankees have no chance if Judge is going to be a zero like he has been so far, and he doesn’t see how the captain figures things out in time given how off he looks in the box right now.
“There is zero evidence that he has confidence,” BT said. “He is jumpy again, flailing at curves in the dirt…he looks as bad as a superstar could look, to the point where I don’t even want him up there in a big spot.
“I almost would take a scrappy at-bat out of Verdugo - who isn’t hitting well right now - or Volpe. He just looks terrible right now.”
BT pointed to how late Judge has looked on fastballs in the zone in this Fall Classic, particularly on heaters that don’t have elite velocity, pitches that Judge typically does damage on. But right now, he looks overmatched against them.
“I know he was expecting something soft, but he swung and the ball was in the catcher’s mitt,” BT said. “You just don’t see that.”
BT’s other big World Series concern is the manager, as he believes Aaron Boone has dropped the ball in multiple key spots when it comes to pitching decisions, particularly in game one, which was there for the taking for the Bombers before Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam.
“Aaron Boone’s deficiencies are becoming clear,” BT said. “I’ve defended him a little bit without overstating it…to even think about going to the top step of that dugout on Friday night after 88 pitches is beyond comprehension. I don’t need to waste time on how dumb that was by Aaron Boone.
“And not only did he go to Cortes, but he put him in a situation that he has never been in in his life!”
