MLB Network is once again revealing their top 10 players at every position, as they do every offseason, and with the second basemen recently being revealed, C-Mac had to call out one glaring omission.
“There is a Yankee that’s being completely disrespected here,” C-Mac said. “I have been all for trading Gleyber Torres. I have been talking about it for a while. I think it makes a lot of sense for this team…I don’t know if he is an absolute winning player. He makes al ot of bonehead plays sometimes, and ultimately, he’s never gonna be what we hoped he would be.
“Last year, Gleyber had a great year. He had an .800 OPS, he’s pretty much top 10 or top five in every offensive category when it comes to second basemen in this league…last year, he was one of the better second basemen in the league offensively.”
Torres was indeed one of the best offensive second basemen in baseball last year, and the Yankees’ best hitter outside of a healthy Aaron Judge. His defense, and especially his baserunning, leaves something to be desired, but C-Mac says Torres’ bat alone should have landed him on that list.
“Gleyber Torres is not in the top 10 of second basemen in Major League Baseball right now. How is that possible?” C-Mac said. “Nico Hoerner is not a better second baseman than Gleyber Torres.”
