C-Mac: Yankees made 'statement' to Astros, AL, and fans with Opening Day win
C-Mac was all kinds of pumped up for Friday morning’s show after the Yankees’ dramatic comeback win over the hated Astros on Opening Day, and said it was a “statement” to Houston and the rest of the league that this Yankee squad is much different than its predecessor.
“That was, I have to admit, as good as it gets as far as Opening Days go,” C-Mac said. “This was, as much as it can be for game one, a statement win. They went into a building they never have success in. This has been a building where seasons go to die for the last decade.
“This is a game they lose over and over again over the last handful of years. You know it. You felt it.”
Only the Yanks didn’t lose this one, erasing an early 4-0 deficit and clawing back to grind out a 5-4 victory. The Yanks didn’t slug their way to a win, as Oswaldo Cabrera’s game-tying solo shot was the only long ball they put on the board, but walks, singles, and sac flies got the job done, showing that this team isn’t the same one that has fallen short in years past.
“This team made a statement, not only to the Astros. Not only to the American League, but to us,” C-Mac said. “Because this team was relentless…this team kept coming at them. The feel of this lineup is completely different.”
