Alex Rodriguez joined Evan and Tiki on Thursday and admitted he was not happy to see the Yankees give Joey Gallo his No. 13, because he wanted to see his number in Monument Park.
C-Mac understands A-Rod’s frustration, and says the former superstar should have his number alongside Paul O’Neill, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and other Yankee greats.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Alex Rodriguez deserves his number retired and a place in Monument Park,” C-Mac said. “There is not a doubt in my mind. Any Yankee fan who thinks otherwise is just being foolish and bitter because you don’t like this guy for some reason.
“If that’s your argument, that he’s a known steroid user, so is Andy Pettitte…if you tell me he didn’t come up with the Yankees, he wasn’t a homegrown player, didn’t play a lot with the Yankees. Reggie Jackson has his number retired. So, that can’t be it. Reggie Jackson played five years with the Yankees.”
C-Mac understands the drama that came with Rodriguez, including his feuds with the Yankees during his year-long suspension in 2014. But without Rodriguez, the Yankees don’t have their last title, and C-Mac says that needs to be acknowledged.
“Alex Rodriguez was a Yankee from 2004 to 2016,” C-Mac said. “He’s a two-time MVP, and without question…is the driving force and main reason the Yankees won a championship in ’09. He was absolutely dominant in the postseason.”
