As the Yankees mobbed Domingo German in front of home plate after he finished off his perfect game, Craig Carton had his eyes on Aaron Judge.
The Yankee slugger, who had just played catch in the outfield before the game, seemed to stay on the outskirts as he continues to nurse a torn ligament in his right big toe.
For Craig, Judge’s caution confirmed his suspicions that the injury isn’t improving, and that the Yankees won’t see Judge again in 2023.
“That just reconfirms what I said earlier this week,” Craig said. “Aaron Judge’s injury is real, and he’s not coming back this year. He’s outside the scrum, kind of puts his hands out, doesn’t jump up and down, and he’s not playing another game this year.
“It has been just under a month since he got hurt out in LA. It ain’t getting better. He’s done.”
Evan agreed that it doesn’t seem to be improving much since he collided with the outfield fence in Los Angeles, but he saw Judge’s reluctance to get right in the scrum as more of a smart choice than a sign that his recovery timeline was even more ominous.
“This is a smart business decision,” Evan said. “The last thing we need is Aaron Judge pulling an Edwin Diaz, or gets involved in the scrum and reinjures himself. The man is hurt…that doesn’t mean he’s never coming back. It just means right now, today, he is hurt.”
