DJ LeMahieu was a surprise absence from the Yankees lineup for Saturday’s pivotal game against the Red Sox, as manager Aaron Boone revealed that the infielder has been dealing with a hip and groin issue.
Boone said LeMahieu has been battling the groin/hip troubles for the “last couple weeks.”
Rougned Odor will start at the hot corner on Saturday, with Gio Urshela remaining at shortstop.
“Last night it was kind of holding him back a little bit,” Boone said. “He’s pretty beat up after last night’s game. Hopefully something that the day will help him out and be back in there.”

LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with a walk in Friday night’s win over Boston. The season overall has been a disappointment, as the reigning batting champion is batting .268 with a .711 OPS and 10 home runs.
