Evan doesn't want a Subway Series - and not for the reason you'd think
Let’s hope for Mets-Tigers or Mets-Guardians, because if the Amazins overcome California in the NLCS and make it to the Fall Classic…Evan doesn’t want a Subway Series?
Ray in Brooklyn called in to the show today and had some choice words for Evan, and then some choice words for ‘you and other Mets fans who talk about first-round byes and other byes’ (which sounds like what Sal Licata said earlier Friday) and the ‘Yankees’ free pass to the World Series.’
“Were you not shaking in your boots when you were playing the bum ass Milwaukee Brewers, who hadn't won a playoff game in the last five years?” Ray asked. “After Game 2 when they tied you guys up, you were the biggest hypocrite saying anybody can beat anybody! Now you're talking about we got a clear path? Come on bro, that is so hypocritical.”
Evan thinks Ray ‘sounds like a nice guy,’ but that diatribe also brought out a fire in Mr. Roberts.
“Ray, you are the reason I don’t want anything to do with playing the New York Yankees in the World Series: because you're an obnoxious, trash-talking loudmouth,” Evan said. “That’s what you are!”
The two went back and forth about some of the things Evan said, but Evan won’t be denied.
“Baseball’s tough, the playoffs are tough. I commend the Yankees for beating the Royals, so why are you coming at me?” he asked. “You’re the favorites! That’s not a narrative to be a douche; you're the better team and there's pressure on you when you're the better team! I’ll be the black sheep on this and I don't give a rat's ass – you’re gonna hear a lot of BS that it’s good for business, but screw business! I want nothing to do with the Mets and the Yankees in the World Series.”
Evan’s not scared of the big bad Yankees, but more just doesn’t want to hear from the chest-puffers.
“I want nothing to do with it because of guys like Ray, or Shaun, because you're sensitive. I said nothing wrong; I said you're the favorites, the road's been cleared. Am I wrong?” Evan asked. “You’re crying about it and you're whining about it and you're talking trash at my team. I know this is inevitable; it’s been about 18 hours since the Yankees advance, and it took the media a few minutes to ask Aaron Judge or Carlos Mendoza about a Subway Series – that’s all you wanna talk about, but THERE IS NO SUBWAY SERIES! The Yankees have work to do, the Mets have work to do. We don’t even know who our opponents are, and we're already starting to trash talk? I hate it! It’s toxic, it’s awful, and I want nothing to do with it. I’m out! No Mets-Yankees, not for me. I’m not interested.”
