Former Yankee Mike Ford is on the move again.
On Saturday morning, the Mariners dealt Ford to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations, and Ford was active for Saturday’s Giants-WHO game.
Ford was an undrafted free agent signing of the Yankees in 2013 and spent seven years in the minors before making his MLB debut in 2019. He hit .259 with 12 homers and 25 RBI in 50 games that season, but had just a .199/.301/.422 slash line (with 17 homers and 41 RBI) in 101 MLB games over three seasons before being dealt to Tampa Bay last June for Aldenis Sanchez and cash.

The 29-year-old was waived by Tampa Bay last August and picked up by Washington, then joined Seattle this season as a free agent, but he never played in the Majors with any of those three teams. He was hitting .317 with two homers in 11 games at Triple-A Tacoma this season before the deal to San Francisco.
Ford could see some playing time at first base or DH in the short-term, as the Giants lost Brandon Belt to a positive COVID-19 test on Friday. Darin Ruf started at first base on Friday, but with the Giants down outfielder Mike Yastrzemski as well and the versatile Wilmer Flores serving as their regular DH right now, Ford could slot in if Flores has to cover an off-day in the infield or Ruf needs to slide to an outfield corner.
Outfielder Ka’ai Tom, who was added as a COVID replacement Friday, was returned to Triple-A to make room for Ford.
