MLB has finally released its 2022 list of the Yankees’ Top 30 prospects, and outside of the Top 3, there has been A LOT of change top to bottom.
As with every other outlet, the Top 3 are Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza, and Jasson Dominguez, who rank Nos. 8, 60, and 61 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 overall – but rounding out the Top 5 are each of the Yankees last two first-rounders, with Austin Wells at No. 4 (and No. 98 overall) and Trey Sweeney No. 5.
The biggest jump? RHP Hayden Wesneski, who was the No. 30 prospect in 2021 but rose to No. 8 behind the Top 5, fellow big riser LHP Ken Waldichuk (No. 2x to No. 6) and RHP Clarke Schmidt at No. 7.
The biggest falls are from two former No. 1 prospects: a rough 2021 season dropped RHP Deivi Garcia from No. 3 to No. 28, and outfielder Estevan Floral, who has been in the Top 10 almost his whole career, rounded out the list at No. 30.
The last two members of the Top 10 were RHPs Yoendrys Gomez and Luis Gil, the latter of whom made his MLB debut last season, while other notables include recent international free agent signing Roderick Arias at No.
13 and recently acquired RHP Justin Lange at No. 20.
