Gio & Jerry: What is going on with Anthony Rizzo at first base?
Anthony Rizzo has more troubles at first base on Sunday, committing two errors early in the game to continue a concerning trend of the typically sure-handed first baseman looking uncomfortable at his position to begin the season.
Gio and Jerry are certainly concerned about the veteran, who is coming off a season in which he missed extended time with post-concussion symptoms.
“What is going on with Rizzo at first base?” Jerry said. “He’s a great defender, but he looks terrible.”
Gio wonders if the symptoms after suffering a concussion last may have anything to do with it, though he hasn’t looked off at the plate so far, batting .274 with a home run through 62 at-bats.
“It was scary, what happened to him last year,” Gio said. “That was an undiagnosed concussion for months.”
Could this just be the beginning of the end for the 34-year-old as a plus defensive first baseman? Gio says it can’t be ruled out.
“Maybe that’s it. Maybe he just hit that wall,” Gio said. “But he has not looked like himself.”
