The Yankees have won two in a row and avoided complete disaster in Tampa by barely salvaging the series finale on Sunday, but Gio isn’t reading much into a series-opening win against the Twins.
Gio is still convinced the Yanks are cooked.
“This Yankee team is just completely dead,” Gio said. “I don’t care that they beat the Twins, they always beat the Twins. This team has got no life, no juice outside of Aaron Judge.
“This guy is going to most likely be the first clean player to hit 60 home runs, and barely anybody talks about it because the team has been so bad, and that’s been the bigger story. The bigger story is the Yankees have completely fallen off the face of the earth despite what this guy is doing.”
The Bombers’ division lead, as much as 15.5 games in July, is down to five, with three more big games against Tampa Bay. The Rays’ schedule the rest of the way will make completing a comeback in the division difficult, but Gio doesn’t think it matters much. He thinks the Yanks are going nowhere fast.
“I know they’re gonna get a little heathier, but this team is not winning in October,” Gio said. “There’s no way.”
