Hours after his incredible yet scary catch in Sunday’s game, Gio Urshela said “thank God I feel as good as I do” and felt like he would be ready to go for Tuesday’s Wild Card Game.
In Monday’s media session during the Wild Card Game Workout Day, Yankees skipper Aaron Boone confirmed that diagnosis after seeing Urshela getting treatment at the team hotel earlier in the day.

“I think he's going to be good. He was a little stiff but actually felt pretty good. I think if there was a game today, he'd be playing,” Boone said.
According to Boone, Urshela’s main “injury” was bruising his thigh, as that’s where he had the most impact when he landed in the Rays’ dugout. He also had a small cut on his leg – perhaps from spiking himself when he seemed to trip on his own foot going into the dugout – but it could’ve been a lot worse.
“I think we got incredibly fortunate in that situation. It really scared me watching him launch in there from my angle. I was expecting him to go over into a car accident and the Jaws of Life being out or something, seriously; I was really, really nervous,” Boone said. “So, you know, he might be a little stiff or whatever, but I don't think it will have much impact.”

Urshela has been starting at shortstop of late, with Gleyber Torres at second base and DJ LeMahieu at third, but with LeMahieu in the IL through at least the ALDS, Boone has said he will “mix and match” Rougned Odor, Andrew Velazquez, and Tyler Wade in DJ’s spot, with Urshela shifting back to the hot corner in deference to the latter two if needed.
Boone did not have a lineup as of his meeting, but with righty Nathan Eovaldi on the mound, it’s more likely that one of the two lefties will be in there, either Odor at third or Wade at short with Urshela at third.
