The Yankees are on the rise, but Gio is already looking ahead to their inevitable playoff exit.
“Who do we think the Yankees are gonna lose to in the playoffs this year?” Gio pondered. “Last year we knew it was gonna be Houston. I don’t know if we know it’s gonna be Houston this year.”
Boomer named the Rays, who the Yankees played tough to the tune of seven one-run games in eight contests, and Gio acknowledged that they could be a candidate. As for the current leaders in the AL West, Gio doesn’t see a threat.
“They’re not losing to the Rangers,” Gio said. “I don’t see that. We’ll take more stock in July.”
Gio will wait until after the trade deadline to make his pick, but he already is calling it: there will be team in the American League that once again prevents the Bombers from getting back to the World Series.
“So we’re not sure who they’re gonna lose to in the playoffs this year?” Gio said. “Because we know they’re losing in the playoffs.”
