Gio: Same old story for Yankees, who are always satisfied with not being best team in AL

The Yankees just finished a 2-5 road trip, and are in the basement of a stacked AL East.

For Gio, the Bombers’ struggles are a product of a formula that the front office has been content with following for the past five years, and there are no signs that it’s going to change.

“The fabric of this team is flawed and injured, and doesn’t show up in big spots,” Gio said. “It’s the same story, and they seem to be satisfied with that type of finish every single year.

“Get into the playoffs, get beat by a better team, and never improve yourself enough to be the better team the next year.”

Now, it looks as if there are several teams in the American League that are better set up to make a run than the Yankees, but Gio has no confidence that New York will do anything about that in the upcoming winter, or any other winters down the road, as ownership made it clear this past offseason that it is content with the status quo.

“Brian Cashman signed a big contract last offseason,” Gio said. “So that’s not gonna change.”
