Keith: Luis Severino is 'done,' needs to be bumped from Yankees rotation

Luis Severino was once again knocked around on Thursday night, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in just 2.2 innings of work in a blowout loss to the Orioles, raising his season ERA to 7.38.

Severino, a former Cy Young finalist, is still just 29 years old, but Keith says it’s time to move on.

“Luis Severino is cooked,” Keith said. “Enough with Severino. I’m done.
It’s OK to tell him ‘Listen, you’re not getting it done.’ He’s done it out of the bullpen before. You have other options. If Jhony Brito and Randy Vasquez can get it done, they’re rookies, go with them.”

Severino looked strong in his first two starts back from his latest IL stint earlier in the season, but since then, it has been a disaster, pitching to a 9.48 ERA in his last seven starts. With injured rotation arms on the way back, Keith says Severino needs to be the odd man out.

“Nestor is on the way back. Rodon pitches tonight,” Keith said. “Enough with Severino. You don’t have to keep forcing him out there. they’re essentially punt games.”
