Mets not worried as first three-game skid helps Braves creep a little closer

The Mets, for the first time this season just days from July, have their first three-game losing streak of the season.

The Astros once again got the best of them on Wednesday, coming through late for a 2-0 victory to drop New York to 0-4 against them this season, and 0-3 in their last three for the first time all year.

“It’s hard to do,” Buck Showalter said after the loss. “Winning a Major League Baseball game is hard, regardless of who you're playing, when, and where. These are the best baseball players in the world. On any given night, someone can be on top of their game and make it really tough on you.

“I think for that to be a note not too far from the halfway point is good. I just hope we can head in the other direction.”

The loss allowed the surging Braves to claw to within three games in the loss column, and as the Mets battle injury, adversity, and their first three-game losing streak of the season, they are still reminding themselves that they are in first place in the division, have the best record in the National League, and help is on the way.

“We've been playing good baseball, we’ve won a lot of series, and we've got pieces coming,” Taijuan Walker said. “I think Max [Scherzer] will be back soon. We got some guys coming, and I think we’ll be fine. I'm not worried.”
