Hand, foot and mouth disease has struck another New York baseball star.

A little more than a week after the Mets' Noah Syndergaard was placed on the disabled list with the viral infection, newly acquired Yankees pitcher J.A. Happ has come down with it, too, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday.

The illness could keep Happ out of the upcoming Red Sox series, although the Yankees have not yet scratched him from his next start. The left-hander was sent home Tuesday.

Hand, foot and mouth disease is not considered serious. Symptoms include uclers, sores around the mouth, a rash or blisters. It is most commonly found in children under 10 years of age.

Syndergaard is believed to have contracted the contagious ailment while working at a children's baseball clinic during the All-Star break. It's not clear how Happ got it. According to a recent Miami Herald article, he has a 2 1/2-year-old son and 8-month-old daughter.

The Yankees acquired Happ in a trade with the Blue Jays last week in exchange for infielder Brandon Drury and minor league outfielder Billy McKinney. In his Yankees debut Sunday, Happ allowed one run on three hits over six innings in a 6-3 win over the Royals.

For the season, the 35-year-old Happ is 11-6 with a 4.05 ERA.
