If you were watching YES Network’s coverage of the Yankees-Rays game Monday night (we promise we won’t tell John & Suzyn), you might have heard Paul O’Neill ask Michael Kay “did your phone just go off?” when Kay announced Rays center fielder Jose Siri stepping up to the plate.

Kay joked it did – and in reality, a phone not far away audibly DID go off when Siri was announced.

That phone belonged to someone in the Rays’ television booth, it seems, as Rays play-by-play man (and former Yankees announcer on MSG) Dewayne Staats got an earful from Apple’s personal assistant when namesake Jose batted in the second inning – and of course, Jomboy was all over it:

Probably not the first time this has happened since Siri made his MLB debut with the Astros last season, but it’s still funny nonetheless.

Luckily, there’s no one in Major League Baseball named “Hey Google,” although given the way corporate sponsorships run these days, someone’s announce team may be vexed similarly in the future if there’s an Android phone nearby…
