As Juan Soto arrived at Yankees spring training and raved about the “electric” atmosphere that will be Yankee Stadium this season, Sal couldn’t help but wonder how any Yankee fans were enjoying it.
If Sal were a Yankee fan, he wouldn’t be able to look past the probability of Soto leaving after just one season.
“I can’t even enjoy this if I’m a Yankee fan because Juan Soto is a goner,” Sal said. “He’s not gonna be here long term. This is an all-in year, the Yankees haven’t gone all in yet.
“I see Juan Soto, and I don’t feel the way I did about other big Yankee acquisitions…because I feel in my heart of hearts that he’s leaving after this year.”
Soto brushed off questions about his future and pending free agency on Monday, but Sal says it is impossible for Yankee fans to ignore it, as he believes the lefty superstar will be out of pinstripes come next winter.
“Think about how much more enjoyable it would be if he were here, knowing he signed a long-term contract?” Sal said. “You got Soto for the next six months. You better enjoy it, because he’s not gonna be around much longer.”
