Sal: Now is the time to make your Yankees World Series bets

Sal Licata says now is the time to get those bets in for the Yankees to win the World Series.

That’s right, after the team dropped its eighth game in the last 10 to grab sole possession of last place in the AL East this late in the season for the first time since 1990.

“I would take the Yankees right now, just on value alone, to win the World Series,” Sal said. “Whatever value it has now, it’s at its lowest…and in two weeks, it will be totally different.”

With Aaron Judge (hopefully) on the way back, along with Sal’s confidence in Brian Cashman to add at the trade deadline, he still believes the Yankees are more than capable of making a run in the playoffs, no matter how bleak things look in the here and now.

“The Yankees will be just fine,” Sal said. “I stand by what I’ve said. I understand I might be brainwashed because I watched the Yankees in the 90s and it seemed like they never lost ever, and now they can’t hit…but they still ultimately will be fine.

“The season ends when the goals you had going in are altered, or no longer attainable…I still believe the Yankees can still win the World Series. Now, come back to me in two weeks where after the deadline, we see what moves Brian Cashman has made to improve the ballclub. Come back to me when Aaron Judge is in the lineup.”

The Yankees don’t look anything like a playoff team right now, especially in their lineup, but Sal still expects the look of that lineup to change, and for some of the struggling veterans to return to their level of play from May, before Judge went down.

“I’m watching the Yankees, but with the thought of what I saw them do against the Dodgers when Judge got hurt in that series, and what I saw them do to the Rays in series prior to that,” Sal said. “I watch this team, they don’t look very good, and yet they’re still above .500.

“All the goals they had before the season are still in front of them.”
