Sal: Sunday was 'nail in the coffin' for Yankees, but it won't spark major changes

Sal has long maintained his confidence that the Yankees will turn things around, even still believing they had what it took to go on a World Series run just weeks ago.

But after seeing the Yanks melt in the bottom of the ninth against the Marlins on Sunday, he has finally thrown in the towel on the Bombers’ season.

“That is, no doubt, I am wrong, nail in the coffin, Yankees are done,” Sal said. “You guys were right…that was the definitive end to the season.

“That was Met-like bad. That doesn’t happen to the Yankees.”

Still, while BT believes the team’s collapse will lead to sweeping changes within the organization, Sal doesn’t believe that’s happening, and any Yankee fans hoping for the silver lining in this disastrous season will wind up disappointed.

“How do you think they are gonna change or make significant changes?” Sal said. “They’re not. It’s not gonna get worse than that. They are not gonna make significant changes.

“It has to get so bad that [Hal Steinbrenner] feels it…he needs to feel the way that Yankee fans feel it. I don’t think he will. It’s already come out that no matter how bad it gets, Cashman isn’t going anywhere. Even if they did move on from Boone, that’s insignificant. That’s not the change you’re talking about.”
