Sal: Yankees are 'delusional,' believe their only problem is bad luck and injuries

Sal did not come away from Brian Cashman’s extended interview with reporters at Tuesday’s GM Meetings inspired in the slightest bit.

In fact, he said that Cashman’s comments only cement the fact that the Yankees will change nothing this offseason, because they don’t believe it is necessary.

“He’s delusional,” Sal said. “I really believe you have a problem if you’re a Yankee fan, because they don’t believe they are doing anything wrong, and that’s an issue.

“They think all is OK. They do not believe they’re making wrong moves. They just think there have been injuries and they have bad luck. That is a major problem.”

Sal was skeptical that there would be any change this winter, even when Hal Steinbrenner hinted at that possibility. Now, he feels even stronger that that will be the case.

“He does not believe they have a fundamental problem with picking the wrong players, which continues to happen,” Sal said. “Let’s not make it like the Yankees have been the gold standard since 2009, because they haven’t been.”
