Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo got into a heated exchange with a fan in left field after the fan threw a ball at him at Yankee Stadium on Saturday night.
Shortly after multiple members of the Boston dugout were ejected following a third strike call to end the top of the sixth, a ball was thrown right at Verdugo after Boston took the field, and a shouting match ensued before Red Sox manager Alex Cora pulled his players off the field.
Cora was livid when talking to the umpiring crew after the incident, and the fan was eventually ejected before the Red Sox jogged back out to their positions.
During the incident, the Yankee Stadium grounds crew hurried to dry the field in the pouring rain in a chaotic sequence. When play resumed, the Yankee bats came alive in the form of back-to-back home runs by Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres, breaking a 1-1 tie.
Verdugo had a playful exchange with a Yankee fan in the outfield in the Bronx just last month, but this exchange was definitely not playful, and for good reason.
