The Yankees bagged the biggest free agent on the market in Aaron Judge, but for them, signing the reigning AL MVP was retaining a star they already had in 2022.
So Craig Carton raises the question: what exactly have the Yanks done to get better this offseason?
“They did nothing,” Craig said. “What did they do? I’m glad they brought Aaron Judge back. Right decision, in my opinion…Aaron Hicks is playing for the Yankees, he’s gonna be on the roster. Josh Donaldson, gonna be a Yankee net year? Is IKF gonna be a Yankee next year? The New York Yankees have done nothing.
“Why, as a fake Yankee fan, should I be happy with this offseason? If you tell me as a Yankee fan that on March 3, I’m gonna turn on the TV and see Aaron Hicks patrolling the outfield for the Yankees, there’s a chance I vomit.”
The Yanks are still reportedly in on Carlos Rodon, and trades are always a possibility, as Brian Cashman has shown many times in past winters, but as it stands now, Tommy Kahnle is the only notable addition when it comes to a player who wasn’t on the roster last season. So, the question Craig poses is a fair one.
Evan also noted that there is a contingent of Mets fans who feel the same way about their team as Craig does when it comes to the Yanks, though he would disagree with those fans. As for the Yankees, Evan wonders what chances the team will have to improve the offense now that the free agency shelves are bare.
“If we made a list of the best offensive players available in free agency, they’re all gone,” Evan said. “How all of a sudden, if you’re a Yankee fan and Brian Cashman…my question would be this: how are you gonna [improve the offense]?”
