Remember Jacob Lindgren, Yankees fans?
The Chicago White Sox announced their list of 21 non-roster invitees to camp on Thursday, and the lefty reliever was one of the names on that list after re-signing a minor-league deal with the White Sox for the third year in a row.
Lindgren, 27, was the Yankees’ top pick in the 2014 Draft, selected No. 55 overall, and he made his MLB debut in 2015, pitching seven relief innings in the Bronx. Elbow injuries derailed his career, however, as he made just a handful of appearances in 2016 for High-A Tampa before needing Tommy John surgery.
The lefty was non-tendered by the Yankees that winter and caught on with the Braves, but missed all of 2017 and 2018 after requiring a second Tommy John surgery. He then signed with the White Sox for 2019, where he pitched 28 2/3 innings in the lower levels of their system in the second half of the season.
Lindgren re-upped with Chicago in 2020 and spent last season at the alternate site.
Among the other White Sox camp invites are three notable names: catcher Jonathan Lucroy, a two-time former All-Star who played just two innings with Boston last year; infielder Tim Beckham, a former No. 1 overall draft pick who has been out of baseball since incurring an 80-game PED suspension while with Seattle in August 2019; and first baseman Andrew Vaughn, the No. 3 overall pick in 2019 who is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the organization.
