Aaron Judge ripped two hard doubles down the left field line in Wednesday night’s blowout win over the Pirates, but both hits were met by an audible grown from the packed house at Yankee Stadium.
The reaction was even enough to confuse Judge for a moment after his second double that hopped over the left field wall.
“I think the second double, I didn’t know if it was foul or not,” Judge said. “I didn’t hear any cheering. I didn’t know what was going on…fans packed it out to see us win a ballgame and see some homers. I gotta cut out this double stuff I guess.”
Of course, the fans are there to see Judge go deep for home run No. 61, and the crowd rises in unison every time Judge comes to the plate, searching for history. The heightened anticipation isn’t a bother to Judge, even if the crowd has made it clear they want to see him leave the park every time he steps in the box.
“Not at all. Yankee Stadium gets rowdy,” Judge said. “It’s been rowdy the past couple days, and this is just how it is. I just gotta treat it like any other game, any other series, any other moment. I’m not trying to get too big in any moment.”
