Aroldis Chapman made his first appearance since May 22 in his return from the IL on Saturday afternoon, and it was as frustrating as it was short.
Chapman flashed the same erratic command he had before he was shelved with an Achilles injury, walking three straight batters to load the bases before Aaron Boone yanked him with no outs in the bottom of the seventh.
A frustrated Chapman removed his glove, put his hands on his hips and stared to the heavens before meeting Boone halfway toward the dugout. The lefty’s career-worst mark of 6.4 walks per nine innings will go up even more.
Yankee fans on Twitter were just as frustrated, watching a cozy 10-2 lead turn into a rescue situation in what should have been a breezy finish. Ron Marinaccio came in and limited the damage to two runs in relief, but fans still made it known they had not missed Chapman.
It really is Aroldis Chapman’s walk year
