In his closing remarks during Friday night’s speech to the Yankee Stadium crowd, Derek Jeter told fans how much he had missed being in the Bronx, and now that his time with the Marlins is over, he looked forward to seeing a lot more of the Yankees and their fans soon.

That immediately fueled speculation on social media that Jeter could be taking up a role with the only team he ever played for in his 20-year career, but Jeter calmed that down after the ceremony.

“No,” Jeter said. “I wouldn’t read too much into it.”

But that didn’t change what Jeter had said to the crowd, or how he felt about being back at the Stadium for the first time since his No. 2 was retired in 2017.

“I did miss the place,” Jeter said. “This is home for me. I was here for 20 years…this is where I feel most comfortable. Of course I miss Yankee Stadium. But I had my head down when I was in Miami.

“I was focused on what we were trying to accomplish down there. But now that that is behind me, I’m looking forward to spending a little more time here.”
