The Yankees, perhaps unsurprisingly, assigned hyped outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez to minor league camp after Wednesday’s spring training game.

The lack of surprise comes from Dominguez’s lack of experience in the upper levels of the minor leagues. The 20-year-old played just five games at the Double-A level last season, and wasn’t considered a likely candidate to make the Opening Day roster because of that lack of experience, and previous struggles in the minors.

But Dominguez made it as difficult as possible on the Yanks by batting .455 with four home runs in 11 spring games, and after entering camp considered to have very little shot of making the team in 2023, he should be considered a candidate to be called up in September.

Still, considering the intrigue around him, his torrid spring, and the Yankees’ need of outfield help in the wake of Harrison Bader’s oblique strain, Yankee fans wanted to see Dominguez get his shot, and they made it known that they were not happy with the team’s decision to cut Dominguez.
