Hal Steinbrenner says Yankees 'need to be concerned' about Astros spoiling historic season

Hal Steinbrenner spoke to reporters on Wednesday, and was asked about the potential collision course with the rival Astros in what would be the team’s third playoff meeting since 2017.

Steinbrenner admitted that just like they were in 2017 and 2019, bouncing New York from the ALCS both times, the Astros could be a problem and a major road block in the Yankees’ march to their ultimate goal.

“We all need to be concerned about Houston,” Steinbrenner said, via the New York Post. “They’re a very good team. The games we’ve played so far have been close, for the most part. It’s gonna be a challenge, but it’s gonna be a challenge for them, too, make no mistake.”

The rivalry would bring even more to the table if the two teams met in October again, as Brian Cashman added fuel to the fire by saying the Yankees’ World Series drought should be attributed the Houston’s cheating ways, as the Yanks were one game away from the Fall Classic in 2017 and two away in 2019. Steinbrenner has put the cheating scandal behind him, but the Astros still linger as a major threat to the Bombers’ historic season.

“This is history, as far as I’m concerned,” Steinbrenner said. “I’m not gonna relive history. I’m looking forward, not backward. And I’m gonna be looking at the Astros. As has been pointed out, we’re probably gonna be playing them in some pretty big games.”
