Yankees release break camp lists for affiliates; Jasson Dominguez to start at Extended Spring

The Martian has landed…at Yankees Extended Spring Training.

The Yankees’ Player Development Division released the organization’s first “break camp” lists for their four full-season minor-league affiliates, which begin play on Tuesday, and No. 1 prospect Jasson Dominguez was not listed on any of them – meaning he will stay behind in Tampa to start in Extended Spring Training.

"Everything that we've seen from this kid, he's super talented, but he hasn't played a game here yet. It's hard to help him manage those expectations, because he's not going to show up tomorrow and perform like Mike Trout or Aaron Judge or Brett Gardner,” Yankees senior director of player development Kevin Reese told MLB.com this spring. "We'll keep him working; our goal is to get the best Jasson Dominguez that's possible. Hopefully, that's a really good player that helps us win games and win championships."

Austin Wells, the team’s top draft pick in 2020 and No. 6 prospect as ranked by MLB.com, will begin at Low-A Tampa, one of three catchers listed for the Tarpons. He’ll be joined at what was the High-A affiliate until this year by Trevor Hauver, the Yankees’ third-round pick last year, and shortstop Anthony Volpe, the 2019 first-rounder who spent his rookie season at Advanced Rookie-level Pulaski.

Hudson Valley, the new High-A affiliate, will begin their affiliation with a roster that includes No. 4 overall prospect Oswald Peraza, as well as catchers Anthony Seigler and Josh Breaux, the team’s top two picks in 2018, and No. 7 prospect RHP Luis Medina.

No. 5 prospect RHP Luis Gil headlines the new Somerset Double-A squad, which also includes outfielder Estevan Florial, the No. 10 overall prospect who made his MLB debut in a doubleheader last season but has never played a regular season game above High-A otherwise.

You can check out the entire break camp lists below, which have 31 players listed at Triple-A, 29 at Double-A, 31 at High-A and 29 at Low-A. This season, A-ball rosters can include up to 30 players – meaning it’s likely someone on the High-A break camp will either be sent to Low-A or begin the season inactive – while Double-A and Triple-A can have 28.

However, Triple-A can essentially have up to 33 to allow for the five-man taxi squad major-league teams are allowed to bring on road trips, but only 28 players can be deemed active on game days.
