Jerry Recco isn't so sure Josh Donaldson walk-off will awaken Yankee bats

Jerry Recco has a hard time seeing Josh Donaldson’s walk-off grand slam as a launching pad for the Yankees to jolt themselves back to their early-season form, especially given how the offense as a whole has performed over the past week-plus.

“If he doesn’t hit that home run last night and they find a way to lose that game again, I don’t even know what to say anymore,” Jerry said. “They escaped it…at least for one night.

“When your offense is anemic like they have been, it’s really difficult to think they can string together wins…if you’re a glass-half-full person, that’s the only way you can think.”

Still, Jerry doesn’t believe the Yankees are as bad as they’ve been since the All-Star break, rather likely somewhere in between that and their early-season performance, though that middle ground may not be good enough to make it out of the American League.

“This is what I can’t understand,” Jerry said. “The Yankees were not good, they were dominant for three months…this wasn’t a two week run.

“Maybe it was injuries, I don’t know. but what I can’t understand is how you go from 40 games over to 2-11, to 8-17, to not just mediocre, but to bad.”
