As soon as reports leaked that the Nationals would begin entertaining trade offers for Juan Soto, the Yankees and Mets were immediately regarded as worthy suitors that could pull off a trade.
But Boomer says the Yanks are far less likely to land Soto than the Mets, even if the Mets are Washington’s division rival.
“From where we sit as Mets fans, I don’t think the Yankees get involved unless it goes to the offseason and they lose Aaron Judge,” Boomer said. “There’s no way they can get involved with their current pay structure and the way that it’s laid out and the fact that Hal Steinbrenner wants to stay below the luxury tax.”
The Yankees of course could still trade for Soto and sign Judge and worry about a Soto contract in two and a half years when Soto is a free agent, but Boomer still doesn’t see it happening with both Soto and Judge in pinstripes.
“There’s just no way they can add Juan Soto and keep Aaron Judge,” Boomer said. “You just can’t.
“Other suitors may include the Yankees if they’re unable to sign Aaron Judge.”
