The Yankees seem to be changing up their iconic road grays in 2024.
As revealed by Paul Lukas of UniWatch, the 2024 MLB Style Guide shows that the Yanks will be removing the white outline around the “New York” lettering on the front of their road jerseys, and will also be removing the trim around the end of the sleeves.
The changes will leave the New York font in nothing but blue, which will be a callback to the 1950s and 60s, when the likes of Mickey Mantle wore the Yankee grays.
Of course, it won’t look exactly like when Mantle was wearing them, as the Yankees now have the Nike logo on the chest of the jersey, and signed a sponsorship agreement with Starr Insurance, which resulted in an advertising patch being worn on the sleeve. That agreement is currently through 2031.
It will be a subtle change by the Yankees, but for an organization that is rooted in tradition and keeping things status quo, any alteration is notable.
