According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees have signed righty Cody Poteet to a major-league contract.
A former fourth-round pick of the Marlins in 2015, the 29-year-old pitched to a 3.86 ERA in 28 innings of work in 2022 before Tommy John surgery ended his season. Poteet then signed a minor-league deal with the Royals in 2023, but only appeared in one game in the minors after recovering from surgery.
In 2022, Poteet primarily relied on his changeup, using the pitch 38 percent of the time according to Statcast, and averaged 95 mph on his fastball. He also used a slider 21 percent of the time, and sparingly broke out a sinker and a curveball.
Poteet will likely compete for a depth spot in the Yankees starting staff, or a bullpen spot.
