The Buffalo Bills improved to 2-0 on the 2019 season with a 28-14 win on Sunday over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Bills overcame a poor start in their first drives on offense and defense, and ended up coming away with their second road win of the season, both coming at MetLife Stadium.
Josh Allen was far more protective with the football this week, but also was in rhythm through the air once again, going 19-of-30 for 253 yards and a touchdown. Frank Gore led the Bills in rushing with 68 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, while Cole Beasley led all players with 83 receiving yards on four catches.
Buffalo allowed the Giants to march right down the field on the game's opening drive with a five-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a 27-yard touchdown run for running back Saquon Barkley. The second-year running back also had 55 yards rushing on the opening drive to put the Giants on the scoreboard first.
The Bills promptly went three-and-out on their first drive, but Buffalo turned things around right after that.
Buffalo ripped off 21 unanswered points on three straight drives, starting with a six-yard touchdown run for Allen on a called run play for the quarterback. On the next drive, rookie running back Devin Singletary scored his first career touchdown as he scampered off for a 14-yard touchdown run. The scoring frenzy was capped off by a 14-yard touchdown pass from Allen to Isaiah McKenzie that made the score 21-7.
The Giants had several chances to get points to end the first half, but New York came away empty with a missed field goal from 48 yards and an interception on a tipped pass.
The second half was not as kind to the Bills offense, who put up just 14 total yards in a scoreless third quarter for both teams.
However, once the Giants pulled back to within one score at 21-14, the Bills responded with their final touchdown drive on a one-yard touchdown run for Gore. This came after the Giants committed a personal foul penalty on a field goal attempt by Stephen Hauschka. The touchdown was Gore's first rushing touchdown since November of 2017.
Not all ended well for Buffalo, however.
The Bills lost running back Devin Singletary and offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe to injuries in the win. Both players did not return to the game.
Head coach Sean McDermott will have more information on the injured players in the coming days.
