McDermott was hired by the Bills back in January of 2017 after spending six seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers. The Bills have made the postseason in two of his three seasons in charge, including breaking a franchise-long 17-year playoff drought in 2017, his first season as head coach. McDermott is 25-23 overall in his three seasons as the head coach in Buffalo.

NFL Network reports it's a four-year extension, but becomes a new six-year deal overall.

So it's essentially 4-year extension for McDermott, OR a new 6-year deal (starting this season) counting the 2 years he still had remaining.
