(WGR 550) - It's media day in San Jose for the NHL All-Star Game. Both Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner will participate. Skinner joined the NHL Network on Thursday night. He said he's not going to do too much in the 3-on-3 format, "I'm just going to try to get open. I'm playing with some pretty good players, so just give them the puck and maybe get open if they need me they can give it and if not, they can do it themselves."
Skinner told the national audience that he made the right decision in waiving his no movement clause to be traded to the Sabres. Skinner told Kevin Weekes, "For me coming to Buffalo, being my first time changing organizations, it's been a great transition and it's as smooth as I could've hoped for and I'm having a lot of fun."
Skinner's career high is 37 goals. He's on a pace for 51 goals this season and he told Jamie Hersch that it's not all him, "It's clicking with linemates. You're not going to be able to score in this league especially 5-on-5 without all five guys being on the same page and when the team has success and when a line starts to click, then production goes up and I've been on the right end of some of those plays and it's been fun to contribute that way and hopefully we can keep it up."
Weekes is very familiar with the fans of Buffalo being a visiting goaltender many times here. Skinner said he's really enjoying getting to know the fans here, "As an opposing player you only get a little of a snapshot of the city, of the community and the organization I think for me coming over it impressed me I think and I didn't really realize how much the community loves the team and loves the sports teams there and how much they mean to them and vice-versa. As a player I think it's cool to be a part of that and it's something we take a lot of pride in."
The Skills Competition is Friday, while the game takes place Saturday night.
