The 2019 NFL Draft is finally here.
Later on Thursday night, the Buffalo Bills will be selecting with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the draft. Buffalo will have plenty of options available to the team at nine, but there is a chance that the Bills go a different route with the pick by making a move up or down the draft order. The Bills have a the draft capital to make multiple moves at the draft this year, and may not make all of their 10 picks that they own.
Here is my final mock draft with the Bills' first two picks in the first and second round:
I feel like Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane haven’t been overly covert in their desire to surround Josh Allen with legitimate weapons. T.J. Hockenson would signal another example of giving the second-year quarterback every opportunity for success. I think many people will connect the dots to Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who coached in New England with tight end Rob Gronkowski. The Bills likely won’t be drafting the reincarnation of Gronkowski, but they’ll be getting the draft's best available tight end from a pass catching and blocking stand point. He’s a Day 1 starter and a guy who can play with his hand in the dirt, in the slot, or out wide. Either way, it’ll now be up to opposing defensive coordinators to decide how they’ll cover the 6’ 5" freak.
You could probably make the case for the top offensive tackle in the draft Jawaan Taylor, but I think with all the additions they added on the offensive line, they can punt on additional help up front in order to give Allen a target over the middle and in the red zone. Sending lots of positive energy for this pick because I truly believe it could be the kind of pick that transforms an offense that hasn’t had a top-five tight end… ever.
33.) Arizona Cardinals – WR – Hakeem Butler (Iowa State)34.) Indianapolis Colts – DE – Chase Winovich (Michigan)35.) Oakland Raiders – DE – Jaylon Ferguson (Louisiana Tech)36.) San Francisco 49ers – CB – Byron Murphy (Washington)37.) New York Giants – CB – Greedy Williams (LSU)38.) Jacksonville Jaguars – WR – N’Keal Harry (Arizona State)39.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – OT – Greg Little (Ole Miss)
A little unfortunate if you’re Brandon Beane. I think in this scenario, you’re seeing Hakeem Butler, Jaylon Ferguson, and Greedy Williams drop and the idea of adding a first round talent at 40 was simply too good to be true. They end up scooping up a plug-and-play right guard in Lindstrom, who could have easily been a first round pick. A.J. Brown from Ole Miss is still on the board here, but he doesn’t walk in as a Day 1 starter like I believe Lindstrom does. Although wide receiver is deeper, it’s still remains to be seen how effective they are together on Sundays. I just like the idea of adding a little youth to all the depth they added in free agency.
Dawkins | Spain | Morse | Lindstrom | Nsekhe
With Spencer Long, Jon Feliciano, Wyatt Teller, and Conor McDermott, the Bills now have the necessary depth to take a huge leap up front in 2019. Keep Allen upright to give him time to complete passes to Hockenson. That sounds pretty good.
