The Stanley Cup can be awfully heavy - weighing in at 34.5 pounds - which is why it is important to be careful with it on the ice.
The Colorado Avalanche found this out the hard way after winning the franchise’s third Stanley Cup title on Sunday night in Tampa Bay.

Not long after their 2-1 victory in Game 6 over the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, the Avalanche were already incurring damage to the famed trophy before they even hit the booze in the locker room.
As the team wrapped up its on-ice celebration with a team photo, winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel was making his way with the trophy to sit front-and-center with it when he slipped and banged the bottom trophy against the ice to break his fall.
A close-up view of the fall showed a pretty clear dent in the trophy.
However, this is not the first time that hockey's most famous trophy has been damaged in recent years.
Just last summer, the Lightning damaged the Stanley Cup during their boat parade celebration in Tampa Bay, leaving the chalice of the trophy dented and disfigured.
Meanwhile, in 2018, the Washington Capitals damaged the Stanley Cup after repeatedly doing "Cup Stands", chugging beer out of the chalice of the Trophy.
Phil Pritchard, the keeper of the cup, said on the NHL’s official social media page that it will be fixed sometime in the future.
