Pittsford, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The on-field temperature wasn't the only thing heating up at St. John Fisher University on Friday during Day 3 of Buffalo Bills training camp.

So was the Josh Allen-to-Stefon Diggs connection.

LISTEN LIVE TO WGR:

The two had connected plenty of times over the first couple of sessions at St. John Fisher, but they took it to a different level on Friday.

Allen found Diggs at all different parts of the field, and a few times for big plays. It's important to note the team is still not wearing full pads, so that puts the defender at a disadvantage when it comes to making some sort of stop after the play. Regardless, Diggs still got the better of the defense several times.

Here's what else stood out from Day 3 at Bills training camp:

Play of the day

The most notable of those plays was Diggs getting free behind the secondary and Allen throwing an absolutely beautiful, arcing pass into his hands. It was not an easy throw, and had to be perfectly placed. Even though Diggs was behind both safety Taylor Rapp and cornerback Cam Lewis, if it was underthrown, either would have had a play.

Diggs tracked it perfectly, and caught it just as he was stepping over the goal line for a touchdown. Plenty of cheers rained down from fans looking on along the security fence.

The Bills receiver continued on his way through the end zone and over the track surrounding the football field to give a few high-fives to some of them.

Spector’s turn

Speaking of Spector, he got plenty of opportunity at the middle linebacker spot with the first-team defense on Friday.

With Dorian Williams focusing more on the weakside spot, the 6-foot, 233-pound Spector, a seventh-round pick out of Clemson a year ago, becomes a more interesting and intriguing option in the middle, battling with Tyrel Dodson and Terrel Bernard, both of whom have seen first-unit reps over the first three days.

A.J. Klein can also be considered in that mix.

Spector later made a terrific play when he dropped into coverage and got his hand on a ball to break up a pass that almost certainly was going to be caught by Dalton Kincaid for a sizable gain.

Cornerback picture

It's really hard to separate the cornerback position opposite Tre'Davious White, and we may not know anything for quite a while.

On Friday, White didn't even play with the first unit several times, as Dane Jackson and Kaiir Elam lined up with that group. Christian Benford worked in with White with the second unit when that happened.

My sense is head coach Sean McDermott and his staff wants to see as many reps as possible from the guys competing by going against stronger competition, in order to get a better evaluation.

Gabe vs. Tre

It was a very spirited wide receiver vs. cornerback 1-on-1 session. A few plays that really stood out included a great battle between Gabe Davis and White.

The first time they matched up, Davis got the better of White, as he made a cut and the corner slipped a bit. Allen hit a wide-open Davis for a nice gain.

White was visibly upset at himself.

Then they matched up again the very next time around. This time, White had terrific coverage every step of the way. It was a well-thrown ball, but White was able to get his hand up, timing it perfectly to break it up.

Meanwhile, Khalil Shakir, who had a big drop on Thursday that resulted in an interception, made a great grab against Taron Johnson. Johnson had good coverage as Shakir turned around to catch a high pass. He climbed the ladder and grabbed it with Johnson draped all over him.

Cook’s hands

Last year, there was so much talk about James Cook’s ability to run a route and catch the ball.

This year, the talk has been much more about Cook running with the ball and whether or not he will be the lead back. It may have been a bit forgotten how good of a pass catcher he is.

It really stood out again on Friday watching him run routes. He's very smooth and catches the ball naturally with his hands.
