Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane spoke with the media following the selection of University of Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam with the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

One of the major points that Beane brought up was the Bills did want to address cornerback spot No. 2 opposite Tre'Davious White, but thought there might be a run early after Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner and Derek Stingley Jr. went in the top-five of the draft.

“The corners went early there for a bit,” said Beane following the early run on cornerback. “We thought we might be looking at another position, but we had a good grade on Kaiir.”

As for moving up to select Elam with the 23rd overall pick, Beane felt the two spots were within “striking distance” for the Bills.

“Corner was where we wanted to add depth," Beane said. "We looked at free agency too, and we looked last year for a corner in the draft, but we followed our board.”

As for White, Beane says the team is hopeful the All-Pro cornerback will be back from his ACL tear for the start of the 2022 season.
